The museum is located since 1987 in four former synagogues, the oldest dating back to 17th century, and houses a rich collection. It shows the history, religion and culture of Jews in the Netherlands and its former colonies. The museum’s collection includes 11,000 art objects, ceremonial objects and historical objects, but only some five percent of which is on display at any one time. It has permanent exhibitions as well as regularly changing temporary exhibitions. The exhibition on the ground floor focuses on Jewish traditions and customs. The presentation is inspired by the former interior of the synagogue.
The tour includes the permanent collection and temporary exhibition. You can add in comments a request for the magnificent Portuguese Synagogue!
