The Amsterdam museum is housed in magnificent buildings, once the city Orphanage, originally founded around 1520. The museum tells the compelling story of the growth and heyday of Amsterdam, from small medieval village to the world famous centre today. The museum offers a permanent exhibition telling the history of Amsterdam. The collection consists of paintings, prints, architectural models, objects and archeological finds and shows how Amsterdam grew from a small medieval town to a world famous centre. The permanent exhibition is continually being added to with temporary exhibitions. Presentation techniques include also audiovisual displays and interactive media. These programs contain hundreds of photos and around 225 fragments of historic film, documentaries and movies from Dutch archives.
Highlights are the unique collection silver and gold, the ±1880 doll’s house, the original 17th century architectural model of the city hall (Dam Royal Palace) and the carillon of the Munt Tower.
