Golden Age in Amsterdam: the
world's first multinational
The establishment of the United
East Indies Company - around
400 year's ago- is being shown
in several museums. Dutch traders
introduced oriental products,
up until that time unknown to
the Western world, to the European
markets. Products such as tea,
coffee, all kinds of spices
and even parrots and cockatoo.
Lots of money was being made,
Holland was then the richest
country in the world and Amsterdam
its powerful trade centre, carpenters,
artillery casting companies,
beer breweries and other companies
supplied all that was necessary
for shipbuilding and travel.
ARTTRA offers a guided tour
or as well as an interesting
lecture: 'who were these
businessmen, how did they operate
and what cultural impact did
they have?' We will
then take you on a tour through
The Golden Age: a walk or a
boat trip along fabulous canal
houses, the town hall, the Hortus
Botanicus, warehouses and the
East India Company ship, The
Amsterdam. Of course we will
also let you have a taste of
the 17th century cuisine, herring
and beer at a beautiful 17th
century

combined with tour Rijksmuseum
